FEATIU EE-ECE Dept Strengthens Industry Linkages

The Electrical Engineering and Electronics Engineering (EE-ECE) Department of FEATI University continues to bridge academic learning with real-world applications through a series of educational company visits conducted in Baguio City from March 23 to 25, 2026. The activity was led by Engr. Virgilio A. Zacarias Jr., EE-ECE Chairperson, together with Engr. Erwin L. Francisco, Senior Faculty Member, who guided the students throughout the trip.

These immersive experiences provided students with firsthand exposure to industry practices, enhancing their technical knowledge and professional awareness across the fields of broadcasting, meteorology, and power transmission.

One of the key visits included leading radio broadcasting companies such as Love Radio and Easy Rock. During the visit, students gained valuable insights into on-air operations, observing how programs are produced and delivered in real time. They explored various studio equipment used in broadcasting, including audio mixers, microphones, and digital control systems. Additionally, students were introduced to transmitter systems, where they learned how radio signals are transmitted over long distances. The importance of regular maintenance and troubleshooting in ensuring uninterrupted broadcasting operations was also emphasized, giving them a deeper appreciation of the technical backbone of the radio industry.

Another significant stop was the PAGASA (Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration). Here, students were oriented on the agency’s day- to-day operations and its critical role in weather monitoring and forecasting. They were introduced to basic meteorological instruments such as wind vanes, barometers, and similar equipment used in weather observation. More importantly, the visit highlighted PAGASA’s vital role in disaster preparedness and public safety, reinforcing the importance of engineering contributions to national resilience.

The final visit was to the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP), where students explored the backbone of the country’s power transmission system. They learned about Basic Occupational Safety and Health (BOSH) practices implemented within the facility, emphasizing the importance of safety in engineering environments. The students also examined various power transmission facilities, including substations and high-voltage equipment, gaining insight into how electricity is efficiently transmitted across regions. Furthermore, the company shared its history and its critical role in ensuring stable and reliable power distribution throughout the Philippines.

In addition to the academic visits, the group also explored some of Baguio’s well-known tourist destinations after each company tour. The visits allowed students to experience the city’s cultural and scenic highlights while fostering camaraderie among participants.

Through these industry and cultural visits, FEATI University continues to provide its students with opportunities to connect classroom learning with real-world applications. The initiative equips future engineers with the knowledge, skills, and professional perspective needed to thrive in their respective fields.
