Custodio Discusses Learning Assessment, Test Construction at FEATI Faculty Seminar​​​​​​

Renowned speaker and educator Dr. Perlita Custodio shared her expertise on assessment and testing in the faculty seminar on “Assessment of Learning with Test Construction” held on August 4, 2026 at the Senior High School Robotics Room.

Custodio, who serves as Assistant Director of the Perpetual Help University DALTA Executive Accreditation and Audit Center, began the discussion with Stephen Covey’s second habit: “Begin with the end in mind” because assessment and testing are activities in class that take place toward the end of the semester but, it should be one of the initial concerns of the teacher.

Using Outcome-Based Education (OBE), the student-centered teaching framework that is advocated by many education specialists, Custodio discussed Learning Outcomes, Bloom’s Taxonomy, the OBE Constructive Alignment, the Six-Step Approach to Assessment, the need for Table of Specifications, and the Types of Test and How to Construct them. She gave examples of types of test such as matching type, alternate response, completion, among others, and explained how these test types that teachers have been using for years can be made more attuned to a learner-centered learning.

“Teach for retention,” Custodio emphasized in her lecture. This, after all is every teacher’s goal that their students remember what they have learned in class that can be gauged by their answers during examinations, which is one type of assessment.

An open forum ensued after the lecture. Engr. John Louie M. Climacosa from the Department of Aeronautics acted as Master of Ceremonies. The seminar was organized by the Professional Schools.
