Riverview Café @ FEATI Library

In commemoration of the FEATI University Foundation Day on March 6, the FEATI University Library shall reinvent itself on March 6-8, 2008.  We are inviting the entire academic community to participate in this celebration.

Over the years, from the time of the Alexandria Library during the Middle Ages up to the present, the concept of libraries has undergone significant changes.  Libraries are no longer the uber-quiet and boring places that they are supposed to be.  In addition, “Librarianship” as a profession had to be reinvented.  Librarians of today are no longer the Miss Tapia clone.

Part of the transformation of the library is that it is no longer just a place for research.  It has transformed itself to be a venue for ideas to flourish.  The library has become a place of convergence of ideas among the academic community.

To showcase these changes, the FEATI University Library has decided to veer away from the traditional library programs and book fairs.  For the celebration, we will convert a portion of the library into a café aptly named “Riverview Café.”  Aside from the obvious, True-blue Featinos would very well know the reason why it is called as such.  This would be the first library-café in the country.

Designed by talented students of the School of Fine Arts under the mentorship of Arch. Rajelyn Busmente, the Riverview Café shall be manned by the pretty students of the College of Business.

Inspired by this new concept, the Library has lined up activities to foster interaction within the campus.  For three days, talented campus musicians will play their choice of musical instruments while a writing tilt will elicit the latent literary talents of students.

To better understand our profession and shatter old stereotypes, the library will show movies depicting librarians and libraries in non academic settings.  We will also feature books that were adapted to films.  Faculty members and students will interpret heart-felt love poems of the acclaimed Latin poet, Pablo Neruda as well as their own compositions.  An original one-act play entitled “Barkada” shall be staged by CASE students.

Through this event, we at the FEATI University Library reiterate that despite the emergence of other information sources, libraries remain as relevant as ever.  We will address the challenge to continue being relevant by focusing on user services and public relations concerns.

Cognizant of the emerging trends brought by the new technology, the FEATI University Library invites the whole academic community to witness and participate in our initial steps towards providing more proactive library services. (AAC)
