FEATI’s Business Warriors Claim VBL Crown
Fifteen Universities and Colleges battled it out in the virtual arena of VBL’s technology-enhanced economy but only one team took the top spot as this year’s ultimate Business warriors.
Sharing the first place cash prize of Fifty Thousand pesos, FEATI’s Information Technology students Kris Clores, Fernando dela Cruz, Keoffer Mizuela, Arvin Bartolome, Mark Jason Villanueva and Alvin Austria bagged the coveted title as 2007’s Virtual Business League (VBL) champions held last December 15, 2007 at FEATI Bridgepoint.
“We are proud to say that we have proven the skeptics wrong and accomplished what some said were impossible. Our team has certainly shown everyone what it takes to be a BS IT student in FEATI University” FEATI IT Head, Ms. Jovy Factor said.
Utilizing the business simulation game Capitalism II and following its automatic ranking system, Lyceum of the Philippines University and Araullo University placed 2nd and 3rd with a cash prize of P30,000 and P20,000 respectively. The game settings had been initially discussed and agreed upon by representatives of all participating teams.
The tournament was also participated by UP Diliman, St. Paul Manila, Mapua-Manila, Mapua-Makati, Jose Rizal University, University of the East-Caloocan, Adamson University, Emilio Aguinaldo College, University of Perpetual Help Rizal, Technological Institute of the Philippines (Manila), Colegio de San Juan de Letran, and Arellano University.
Two years ago, The Philippine Electronics and Telecommunications Foundation (PETeF) launched the Virtual Business League to encourage future global players to take interest in and practice their entrepreneurial skills. After a one-year hiatus, FEATI University, with the agreement of PETeF decided to revive the VBL Tournament and serve as its 2007 host. In the manner of other tournaments and contests, it is envisioned that the VBL will be hosted by the different participating schools in the coming years. The 2008 host is yet to be announced.
“Two-thumbs up! This endeavor will surely serve as the road map for future business leaders. The competition has successfully integrated advance technology into the art of making critical business decisions.” Lyceum MIS director Lester Gastala said.
