S&T EXPO 2008Stewardship through S & T S & T Initiatives on Pasig River, Tributaries and Surrounding Areas
FEATI University continues its mission of promoting applied research and development and generating innovative technologies through the fifth S&T Expo on March 6 and 7, 2008 at Bridgepoint. Geared towards environmental and sociological pursuits with attention to areas in close proximity to FEATI, the theme of this year’s Expo is “STewardship through S&T: S&T Initiatives on Pasig River, Tributaries and Surrounding Areas”
The S&T Expo is a venue for the exposition of the University’s research efforts by its students and faculty members. It is also a research competition. The best project is awarded the Zara Cup, in honor of Dr. Gregorio Y. Zara, the first Dean of FEATI College of Engineering, a prolific researcher and renowned academic figure.
The Expo will highlight a research project of the U-Belt Consortium, a group of 13 Universities which includes FEATI. Each participating university has adopted a specific Pasig River tributary-estero, where they will take sediment samples and assess their heavy metal contents. The universities have agreed to become stewards of their adopted tributary-estero.
The FEATI University Carlos Palanca Urban Renewal Project will also be presented at the two-day exhibit. Also part of U-Belt Consortium research efforts, this project has progressed to the point where the Carlos Palanca Stakeholders Working Group (CPSWG) has been established. With the cooperation of the stakeholders, the project seeks to improve the street’s present conditions, including its traffic and environmental conditions.
FEATI’s Institutional partners are part of the exhibit as well. Industrial Technology Development Institute (ITDI-DOST), Pasig River Rehabilitation Commission (PRRC), Philippine Council for Industry and Energy Research and Development (PCIERD-DOST), Technology Application and Promotion Institute (TAPI-DOST), U-Belt Consortium Research and Extension Linkage will have their own booths.
