FEATINIANs have one more reason to be happy this summer as two of their fellow students from the School of Fine Arts won awards at the University of Santo Tomas Annual Inter-School On-the-Spot Painting Competition with this year’s theme, “Experiencing Honesty and Integrity in Arts” held at the Benavides Park and the Arch of the Centuries at the UST campus held on February 27, 2008. An exhibit of all entries was mounted at the UST Museum which lasted until March 28, 2008.
Incoming junior Averil Paras and graduating student Randalf Dilla garnered 2nd place and 2nd Honorable Mention respectively.
These young artists saw the theme through their own lives and their own art and projected it through their own selves on canvas. Paras’ entry, “The story behind the colorful life” and Dilla’s “The message of art” were post-modern concepts of the self and self-narratives that embody the artists’ moral integrity and honesty.
First Placer of the contest was Emil Jay Guiang (1st) of Technological University of the Pnilippines, along with the other awardees Carlo Caacbay (3rd) of Bulacan State University, Rudolph Serrano (1st honorable mention) of Eulogio “Amang”. Rodriguez Institute of Science and Technology, and Junmard Vicente (3rd honorable mention) of University of the East-Caloocan. (CMS)
