“FEATI is my home…”
An alumnus shares his thoughts on the occasion of FEATI University’s 62nd Anniversary (by Jose A. Silvestre, AEE ’67, BSEE ’70, MS ManE ’05, EE Faculty Member, 4th placer EE Board Examination)
Good morning to all of you!
I’m still thinking why I am in front of you today… probably as one of the last ones standing? Surely, it is God’s will. It is still not completely clear what I am supposed to do… so I have decided to share with you the secret of my life-long stay in the University.
FEATI University has been my home; home sweet home. It is here where my dreams, as a seventeen-year old, came true. By God’s grace I am still here, sixty-three years old, a member of the academe. Here in FEATI I developed my responsible character, my spiritual well-being, my academic foundation, and my professional competence. The University is my home, my field office, and my academic arena. It represents a source of life, and it is the wellspring of my honor and pride.
Inspired by the words inscribed on the walls of the University, “LOOK UP YOUNG MAN, LOOK UP” I aimed high and did my best. Foundation Day reminds us of Dona Victoria Lopez de Araneta, of her now famous quotation, and of her constant way of inspiring people—students, faculty members and employees alike—“to give the best of themselves”. Her words must not only emblazon the walls of FEATI, they must continue to echo in the halls of the University and in the hearts of its students, alumni, faculty members and employees as well. It will add zest to their aspirations; bolster their moral integrity and boost their economic productivity that they may well serve… God, our country, our University, their family and themselves.
FEATI University@62 is an excellent time to look at how a great motivator can really inspire people to make the most of their potentials, not only to succeed but also, at times to be great.
Good day to all of you and Happy Foundation Anniversary!
